Not everyone likes it, but those who do, they really know what a delicious taste means. A breakfast or evening food can be supplemented with a tasty add on. We can say that both pancetta and bacon can be experienced as such. It is not necessary to eat a lot of it to be able to enjoy the taste. Some smaller pieces are enough. They can be savored with some roasted toasts, some butter, creme fraiche but also some fresh onion or garlic. You can serve it mixed in some omelette or with beans, but you can eat it also as a side dish.

We can then say that it is pretty OK to eat. People in southern Europe enjoy it. In e.g. Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, we can see that pancetta and bacon are something very common. Also in other countries people eat it. Different nations maybe serve it differently and it can also be as a tasty part of a hamburger.

However, what does the science say? Different articles found on the Internet show us that pancetta and bacon are not dangerous or bad, but people should not exaggerate because of the saturated fats. Some other articles say that the immune system can be negatively affected and some other articles we saw explain us that pancetta and bacon also contain vitamins like B1 (thiamine), B2, B6, and B12, along with vitamin A and selenium. Therefore they can be good to eat. So, it still sounds like it can be good to eat but we have to be careful with how much we consume it. Many years ago people believed that pancetta and bacon could contribute to a better immune system, especially in autumn and winter because it is a time of the year when people easily can be cold and sick.


It is up to us to decide if we should trust the science or the experience from the good old times. Some experience can say that eating pancetta and bacon can help us against viruses and sickness and probably it can be so if we consume it correctly. On the other side, if we enjoy the taste, then we can look at it as at anything else. People eat and drink everything regardless if is healthy or not and they probably do it because they enjoy it.
