CPH Marathon app and the real-time

CPH Marathon app and the real-time. Everyone can follow everyone. Running becomes much more interesting when people can have fun during the race. A marathon is a fight against the time and other runners and it is expected to be in the real-time.

Thousands of people prepared for a new run. Many of them have trained on daily basis because they wanted to participate. Copenhagen Marathon is a very attractive marathon because the area is pretty flat. That means that there are no big up and downs. You are pretty much on the same sea level whole the time and therefore, running in this city is easier than e.g. in Stockholm.

Every participant can check the own race on the app called CPH Marathon. There is also a full list of all the participants. Everyone can actually follow and see every runner and his or her time. And that time is a real-time. You can see where every runner is, how many kilometers he or she has ran and how long time it has gone. The CPH Marathon app is a very nice and simple tool for free use.

This year we have followed a person who has participated in Copenhagen Marathon 4 times. This was his fifth time and he started some minutes before 10:00 a.m. and he started pretty good. We noticed an interesting detail though. In the CPH Marathon app the time appeared to behave a little bit strange. If that is a bug or not, we have not investigated. However, the question is how reliable this kind of apps are. Is the real-time technology really a correct information or does it only appear to be that? We do not know that, but we noticed that the deviation between the time in the time counter and the saved time for the first 5 kilometers was 10 seconds.

However, we tried to google for the answer by using this text: "10 seconds deviation in cph marathon app real-time" and the AI-answer in Google explains something like this: A 10-second deviation in the Copenhagen Marathon app's real-time tracking is normal, likely caused by delayed splits in crowded sections. Accuracy: The app is designed for tracking and providing live results through official checkpoints, but immediate real-time splits can experience minor delays.

Anyways, the Copenhagen Marathon 2026 was successful.
