Is Internet our freedom?

Is Internet our freedom? Does it take our spare time from us? In some situations this freedom can be very useful but in other cases we unfortunately forget that we also have a life in the offline world. Almost all around the world we have possibilities to connect us to the Internet. We do not even need computers, it is enough with small phones or Smart Phones as they are called. Where ever we are we can do what ever we want on the same way as we are at home or at the office. The Internet gives us that opportunity, that freedom to access data we need or want to get, when ever we want. Some days ago during a trip by the train, we got a perfect chance to analyze a group of people and their Internet use. This kind of opportunity does not come every day. One group of 6 people was standing close to the train door because their destination was the next or some of the 2-3 following stations and the train was crowded. What they did in those 10-15 minutes is described as follow:

1. One young lady in her 30s was looking and scrolling at her phone one period. Then she stopped and was waiting for some notice from the phone and so on. She was not so busy - she also had time for her self. 2. One old lady in her 60s was reading something at her phone. She looked concentrated and relaxed. After a while she played some game on the phone. (It looked like a cross word / Wordfeud or something like that) 3. One young man in his 30s-40s was typing very fast at his phone in the beginning and after a while he was just scrolling and reading something being more relaxed. 4. A younger woman standing behind the man just described probably was reading something at her phone but it was not possible to see. Looking at her neck and its position, her face was directed more towards the phone in a hand rather than outside of the train. 5. One another young man in his 30s was looking at his Facebook page and he was probably communicating with others there. 6. A writer from our magazine was in that group and he was doing nothing else than waiting to get out of the train. He also observed the people around him because he found this "Smart Phone" thing as interesting for this article.

Since all above mentioned people were close to each other in the group it was possible to see what some of them did, e.g.  reading, playing, scrolling and Facebook-ing. That was very interesting phenomena and very interesting fact that our technology makes us addicted to it. If we just try to imagine a situation where no one of these people had a Smart Phone, what would have happened then? Probably, instead of using the phones all of them would just be deep in some thoughts. Some of them would try to close the eyes and try to get some sleep after a long working day. internet our freedom Image found at: www.forbes.com . Is Internet our freedom or does it take our spare time from us? Is Internet our freedom or does it take our spare time from us? This question can be answered on some different ways but without trying to go deeper in to that subject we can say:
In some situations this freedom can be very useful but in other cases we unfortunately forget that we also have a life in the offline world.
We need to rest, we need to disconnect us from the online world and we need to close our eyes sometimes. After all we are just some human beings who are born before Internet and we should not let it control us. We should have control over it.
