Police - are they reliable?

Police - are they reliable? There is always a risk that people, who call the police, get in to some unpleasant situation instead of those who actually commit crime. We all need to feel safe in safe environments. We all want and have a need to be able to trust our police. On the other side we must ask ourselves: Is that possible today in our countries like in e.g. Sweden? The Swedish police is good, in some cases very good, but actually not reliable as they should be. Looking in some cases where we as people expect more cooperation and help from them we simply can say that they do fail in their role. It is not possible to fully trust in their role as our security and this leads us to not act as we would like in cases where we want to try to prevent some crime. As many other people can not explain this phenomenon it will unfortunately remain as it is. One possible explanation could be that the state does not invest in police as it should. We can see examples where police simply ignores people in cases when they cooperate in crime prevention. There are situations where people call them and explain what is going on but they do not get any response as they hope. One standard excuse is priority:
That is not as important as something else is.
In last 25 years Sweden has changed in negative direction when we look at what is going on around us but we can not see that the police has adapted their role in to it. If you for example see some crime going on outside of your home and you call them to report that hoping that they will come and take care of it, they will unfortunately not do that as you would like them to do that. They will probably not prioritize or appreciate it. So why care? There is always a risk that people, who call the police, get in to some unpleasant situation instead of those who actually commit crime. Police - are they reliable? Can we prevent crime when it is going on? Not always. One standard excuse is priority: That is not as important as something else is.   What can make the police to do their job properly when it is needed? Some people would say:
Maybe we can see some changes in positive direction if the right political party wins or gets better position next time. Of course if they have plans for improving the discipline and give more rights to the police we still can keep our hope alive.
But is it police or is it something else that should be changed or improved? What is the real reason why some people do not feel safe any more? The discussion is of course free.
