Peter Staiger - running and Copenhagen Marathon

Peter Staiger - running and Copenhagen Marathon. Is it important to have right running shoes and how does it feel to have completed the Copenhagen Marathon a few times?

This time I have got inspired by running. One of my friends is a successful runner and he has experienced Copenhagen Marathon. He knows much about running so I just had to let him give me this story. Partly he has inspired me and hopefully he will inspire others too.

You love running according to my experience. That is, I must say, your lifestyle. When did you start with it? What made you decide that?

I started running about 5 years ago. I started with thinking I need to start getting a bit more fit. And one of the main reasons was that I was going to be a father. And since I was going to have my fortieth birthday before I became a father, I thought to myself, "I am not going to be such a young father, I need to be fit to be able to run after my child and have energi to play etc." So, I thought I need to starting a couple times a week."

I followed you once on 5 km run. I remember it was challenging. Do you remember? How do you normally run, alone or with someone? Why do you prefer that?

Yes, I remember that! You wanted to start running too and see how it would feel. I run always alone. And I prefer that since I can decide what pace I want to set for that run depending on weather and especially wind. Then also the energy level I am on.

Running 5, 7 or 10 km are different levels. How do you decide the length of your run? Do you have any goals when running? What inspires you?

I decide the length mostly depending what time I have and that it does not affect my family quality life.

Peter Staiger - running and Copenhagen Marathon. The GPS watch is good to have.

Many runners use different apps. Do you? How does it help you?

No, just a GPS watch to see I am keeping up with the pace I have set for the day.

Tell us more about your achieved goals, your best results.

I am happy to have completed the Copenhagen Marathon a few times. My best time being 03:06:20. But, my first Marathon I tried to run, I had to give up, half way. It was the Stockholm Marathon. I was not trained enough, my knee locked up and I couldn't bend my knee.

Running shoes - what is important to think about? What are your favourites?

Yes, it's very important. For me I prefer 2 running shoes. One for speed training and one for distance training. Adidas boston boost are my favorit now. All time favorit Adidas boston guide boost.

Copenhagen Marathon is your dream. You already have run there.
Can you describe the experience? Did you have any goals? Were you satisfied with the result?

I have been satisfied with my 2 first result, then I achieved mostly what I wanted from it.

This year the marathon is cancelled because of the Corona virus.
What can you tell about that? Has that messed up your plans?

Yes, it has taken away my motivation and this was the year I was going to set my own personal best time and then retire from trying to run fast.

Have you plans for Copenhagen Marathon next year? Are you preparing for it already now?

I am just maintaining my fitness now and will start training hard in januari.

What about other runs or marathons? Have you participated on Stockholm Marathon (will be in September 5 this year) and Göteborgs varvet? Any other? How was that?

Just Stockholm which I didn't complete

Is that an possible option for you in the future?

I will to complete Stockholm once in the future.

What can you say to people who feel for running but do not really get started properly? How would you encourage them?

Start slow and short distance. But, have a goal otherwise you give up soon.

Well, at the end… do you have any idea how many kilometers you have run in total? Tell us with an approximate example like from city A to city B.

I have run now 4 370 km since Januari 2015.

Interesting! That is almost the distance between Malmö in Sweden and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (4465 km) . However we cross our fingers for Peter and Copenhagen Marathon next year when we get rid of the Corona virus.
