Vacuum cleaning now and then. What can we say about robot vacuum cleaners now and then? Let us share some experience.

In one of our earlier articles (Robot or regular vacuum cleaner?) we wrote about a similar subject. This time we are trying to see if there are some improvements in the technology developed in this area. Five years ago we experienced a robot vacuum cleaner. The brand is today unknown because we simply do not remember it.

What is changed and can we express any satisfaction now? Let us check which properties we noticed then and let us try to compare those with the properties of our new robot vacuum cleaner. The first thing we can mention is the price. We are sure about the fact that the prices of the old one and the new robot are similar. That is, considering the time difference, we can say that they are in the same price class and they are not the most expensive ones.

Now and then

The robot vacuum cleaner from 2020 had problems with sand, gravel, cables and raised surfaces such as carpets. On the other side, it was able to manage dust and (bread) crumbs. It successfully helped with cleaning an apartment with budgies flying around. The robot vacuum cleaner from 2025 appeared to be little bit more ”self-confident”. Its ability to go up, or climb up to a new level around 1-2 cm above the base, appeared to be stable.

The brushes actively brushed all surfaces and the result was experienced better than the result with the older robot. This new robot could unfortunately not manage all bigger dirt pieces, especially those from the outside, close to the entrance door of the apartment. The suction capacity of the robot vacuum cleaner is not that strong. It simply can not do what a regular vacuum cleaner can.

Some last words

What we can say about both robots is that they have given us a satisfying experience even though their work is not 100% as when you use a regular vacuum cleaner. They are perfect for keeping it clean from dust under the bed, different small particles, but also from smaller feathers or cat hair. The regular one is stronger and will probably remain better than any future robot vacuum cleaner, just because of the strength and ability to manage heavier and bigger pieces of dirt.
