MitID replaces NemID

MitID replaces NemID. It is time for replacing a log in method similar to an older German method with a new log in method similar to a standard Swedish method.

Internet security is a very important detail in our lives. Many errands can be done online on the Internet in almost all modern societies and therefore the security has an important role.

We are now writing about one of the identification methods in an European country. Denmark has had NemID in many years. Without presenting an exact number of years we can say that NemID has been used longer than 15 years.

How does NemID work? The method is a combination of different numbers. They are connected to a specific username. It works like this:

  • You log in to e.g. your bank account by using your username and password.
  • Then you have to write a predetermined number which is connected to a generated number in the login process.
MitID replaces NemID. In Denmark people are now changing to MitID, something similar to the Swedish BankID.

A similar identification method was used in Germany in 2005 and 2006 according to our experience. We believe that it was used there also some years before and after that period. Nowadays we do not know what method they use because we have not investigated.

In Denmark people are now changing to MitID. It is a new tool that is similar to the Swedish BankID and it is connected to a specific username and a device. When you log in to e.g. your bank account you have to write your username and password in the MitID app which automatically opens in your device, in your smartphone.

Using MitID seems to be working well. It is simple to use and hopefully there will be no bugs.
