During a period of at least 25 years, banking systems have offered a pretty good security for their end users. We can take the Swedish Swedbank as an example. All the bank customers have had and of course still have an opportunity to pay their bills and do other errands without having to visit a bank.
Visiting a bank office is nowadays not so pleasant adventure. Many bank offices do have a short opening hours or no opening hours at all. When it happens in some isolated cases, the queue can be exhausting. You have to be prepared for at least one hour of waiting before it is your turn.
As a loyal user of Swedbank, every customer might have noticed a change in the security tokens. The earlier, older models where created for entering digits only. Now you can scan a QR code and then use the digits as before. That is probably an upgrade attempting to create a better security. The system is good and it works as expected. One thing that was better before is the physical design. The earlier black ones were maybe nicer, but it is all about a habit. The orange one simply breaks the old color fashion.
However, the security tokens are a perfect invention. Besides that, there are other security systems that can be used in smartphones. In this case, the BankID system is the one in Sweden. Of course it can be used instead of the security tokens and it is easy nowadays. Actually you do not have to have a security token any more, according a bank employee. Anyway, they are still created and offered to the bank customers, probably during some kind of overgoing period of time.
