Search engines - what do people search for?

Search engines - what do people search for? What is that people hope to find? Artists, friends, food recipes, machines or something else? Curiosity is something that many of us have.

In the end of January and start of February 2021 the Justfindit.se team noticed a significant number of searches from Germany. The visitors used ip addresses from Germany and searched with German words and phrases. Also some searches from Italy were registered.

Obviously someone wanted to test this search engine. But what do people use to search for? Artists, friends, food recipes, machines or something else? What is that people hope to find? Curiosity is something that many of us have.

We have noticed that the majority of all those searches from Germany and Italy were names. As it looked like, it was randomly chosen names connected to e.g. some musicians or medical doctors. The rest was some random words such as city names and they have been analyzed for creating search phrases.

The search engine manager decided not to use any of search phrases because they were too randomly chosen and it would not make any sense to keep them. Preferably, they should be created by a registered user. In this case they were not classified like right content in the Lexicon at Justfindit.se because they already exist as well defined in other search engines. The manager said:

For us it is good to see creative searches even though we do not use them. They maybe can inspire us in developing our technology. And it is of course great to see that our search engine is becoming attractive.

How can search engines get use from different searches? Well, words will always fit in different combinations. If one source is not enough, then several sources together can contribute to a further development.
