Lili Elbe - The Danish Girl movie. Gerda and Einar created a new person who partly was a part of their relationship on daily basis.

It is time for a movie again. In the beginning of 2024 we somehow found an interesting one on TV. We saw some interesting scenes and simply decided to continue watching. What and why made it us curious and willing to do so? Sometimes it just happens.

The movie is based on a real story from Denmark. We talk about a happily married couple who lived in Copenhagen 1926. His name was Einar and her name was Gerda. They really loved each other and were happy together. Both of them were artists and they worked much with landscapes and portraits. That is what they preferred before other paintings.

One day something new happened. Einar decided to wear woman clothes while posing for a portrait. He also looked at Gerda while she was taking on her clothes. He felt some special passion for those moments and that was something what might have stimulated his own feelings and needs.

Posing in woman clothes was not the only thing Einar enjoyed. One time he attended a party dressed as a woman. Later on he actually discovered that he wanted to be woman and not a man. He was born as a man but he was actually a woman. In the movie he expressed that he is a woman trapped in a man’s body. More often he preferred to look like a woman and at the end he decided to something about that.

His wife Gerda was the whole time with him and on his side. She loved him but she also was sad because of losing Einar as her husband. This story involves feelings, love and passion at the same time as it shows us how understanding and support can play a huge role.

Gerda and Einar created a new person who partly was a part of their relationship on daily basis. Their creative passion replaced Einar with Lili Elbe, with the surname just like the river.
