Every year, the young Swedes get one week long holiday. It is actually for all girls and boys who go in school. Sportlov is divided in 4 weeks. Following weeks are the time when different parts of Sweden have their school holiday: 7, 8, 9, 10. It starts with the week number 7 and it ends with the week number 10. Why is this period of school holiday divided in several weeks?
Many families probably want to go with their children on some ski holiday. Some people can not afford it but others can. Those who can, they do not want to stand in long queues and wait for a ski lift. That is why Sportlov is divided so that people from different regions in Sweden can enjoy their winter time and school holiday. No one likes when it is too crowded at the pistes and in the ski lift queues.
Families are different. Not every family member likes or can ski. It is perfect when everyone can do it, because all of them can enjoy the quality time together. Those who do not ski, can at least enjoy the winter view from a nice café or a restaurant. That is also something that is partly included in the quality time of Sportlov.
In Sweden there are several ski resorts, that are very popular in the time of Sportlov. We are not going to mention them here because it feels unfair to mention some of them only. Our experience says that each one of those ski resorts has something that can make their visitors fall in love and wish to come back again next time.
