Rain showers in summer time – a disaster or not. We might love some rain in hot summer days but we have to show it respect. Water is sometimes our very good friend or our very dangerous enemy.
Sunshine and blue sky without clouds is what many of us love. But in summer this can mean very hot weather. What is it that some people look forward a hot summer day?
Rain! Sitting in a shadow and avoiding the sun does not always help. But if some rain comes and cools down the air, we can feel how the temperature becomes more pleasant. Rain showers in summer time are sometimes needed.
There is one negative side with rain showers. They can lead to disasters if they contain very much rain, very much water.
In July 2021 some parts of Europe (e.g. Germany, Holland, Belgium and Austria) were affected by huge amount of water. Rain and rain showers surprised the whole infrastructure and water could not be stopped or controlled. Many villages or small towns, roads, houses and cars were destroyed. More than hundred people were injured and disappeared. Many have died. (In this article we do not mention exact numbers because we do not analyze the whole disaster here.)
Water is sometimes our very good friend. On the other side it is also our very dangerous enemy. The rain showers can fresh up us but they can also give us huge damage. We might love some rain in hot summer days but we have to show it respect. It is never absolutely clear how much water a longer rain shower can give us. Instead of freshen up it can drown us.
