Final version – does it mean the end? Does any product or software have a final version? What happens with something that does not have to be developed any more?
In our modern world we can see many changes in technology and IT. They come very often and very fast. It has been so especially during the last 10-20 years. Technology develops and new ideas must be realized very fast. Those who present new products or product features fastest are leaders. They are a step ahead.
How many versions do products or softwares have? It mostly depends on how much something is used. If people use it very much then there might be needs to improve it. Every change contributes to a new version. In this magazine we have written about updates and developed versions.
Does any product or software have a final version? Well we have not fully investigated this but we have seen cases where companies did decide to stop a development. Just like in this case where we wrote about ending a product.
But the final version does not mean that something will not be developed or used any more. It is not so that something should not be used any more in that case.
When presenting new versions developers simply want to show that some product or software is alive and that it gets improved. The final version does not mean the end if something works as expected. It is maybe just a break or paused development.
If we really choose to keep something even though it has no new version it will always be possible to expect some news. And news bring new versions. Not all news are pure new ideas but they also can be result of bug reports or feedbacks.
