Branäs ski resort - Super-G and Downhill. A boy’s dream is realized and high speed Super-G and Downhill were possible to experience on at least 3 different pistes. Let us learn more about this place!

Branäs group is Branäsgruppen in Swedish. In this group we have four ski resorts in Sweden. They are Vallåsen, Ulricehamn, Kungsberget and Branäs.

Branäs has been run by Branäsgruppen since 1999 and during a period of 20 years they have won the award for ”best ski resort for families” 12 times according to https://www.branas.se/om-branasgruppen/welcome-to-branas/ .
Branäs has one of Sweden's most modern ski rental services, all their cabins are ski in – ski out.

As an author and owner of this magazine, I have decided to write a reportage about skiing in Branäs this time. We wrote about all those three others so let us see.

How is Branäs?

From Malmö city in south it takes 8 hours and 30 minutes up to this ski resort. But when you reach the goal you forget the whole long trip and suddenly it is time to enjoy. Just take a look at this beautiful view from the top. It is also where a great black piste starts. It is fantastic when it is without ice.

Ski in - ski out is what describes the place we came to. Our apartment at Mountain Lodge was just 75 meters from a first ski lift. The parking was just outside the window and bathroom was equipped with Rituals.

In the apartment we had 4 beds, a little kitchen and table for 4 people. It was a small cozy place for enjoying and resting after long skiing days. It was clean and well prepared for us as guests. In the entrance hall of the apartment there was a drying cabinet which was very useful for all wet clothes.

The first impression was: this place is better than Kungsberget. Why? The ski pistes contributed to our decision. There are different variations and Branäs seems to offer more attractive and maybe even some more longer pistes than Kungsberget.

We are not going to compare more now but we will try to present Branäs as it is.

Gondola lift, off pistes and Nintendo land

What characterizes this place? Sit lifts are some kind of standard in Branäs group but this is the only one place with Gondola lift. The start is at the lowest point and the end is on the top.

When it blows much they close it because otherways it can be dangerous when it swings much. Then there are many off pistes. For example through the forest.

Not all but the most interesting big pistes are wide and well connected to each other. They also offer opportunities to challenge yourself. For example skiers can test own giant slalom or jumping skills.

And there are two more interesting pistes. The one is Nintendo Land and it goes deep through the forest with many challenging paths. Unfortunately we have no image from there but we have from the second one piste. Its name is Long Turn and it stretches from the top to the middle part of the mountain where it gets connected to the black and red pistes.

This piste offers an opportunity to enjoy downhill in lower part but it is not the same kind of experience like on the two great red pistes. Unfortunately we have no images from there but they are partly visible on the left side of the second image from above.

A boy’s dream is realized

Enjoying red and black pistes was possible in this ski resort. 34 years ago there was a boy who had a dream. We must admit that Branäs felt perfect for realizing it. Just imagine a high speed Downhill or Super-G race. It was possible to experience on at least 3 different pistes.

The boy who is a grown up nowadays flew down several times as a rocket in very high speed by using the g force on red and black pistes. That fantastic experience will stay unforgettable deep in the senses. The sharp and cracking sound from the dry snow and shaking view in the front and on the sides will remain as a great memory.

At the end of this reportage we must say that almost all pistes were open from 09.00 to 19.00 and they automatically offer night skiing.

Well, Branäs as ski resort is great for all skiers. Families, beginners and experts can find what they want. That is why we are so happy to recommend this place.
