Let us start this article with one question only: What is vacation for you? And let us then try to picture how it is to use it for taking a challenge. Now we continue.
As an author and owner of this magazine, I have decided to write a reportage about a running challenge in Munich.
I have actively been running since 2020 and this 2022 is a special year. For me it is a year of a new running goal. I must reach at least 500 km in total. So I experienced this vacation time as an opportunity to experience Munich and running in that city.
From the first time the goal was to run around 8 km. The start point was just close to the hotel and the end point was in Studentenstadt - a part of the city. Later the running route was changed and started in Studentenstadt instead.
It was very hot outside. The temperature was around 32 degrees but it was inspiring for me. I met my Munich again and simply wanted to experience it again. What I wanted was to run the distance I used to go in 2005.
I ran through the Ungererstrasse towards Münchner Freiheit and The Walking Man.
Actually the running was in the same direction as U6 metro drove towards the southern parts of the city. It was not really my intention to do it like that but it is nice to know that this route was my daily U6 -route during 8 months of working and living in beautiful Munich.
I carefully planned this running route some weeks before the start and the goal was to run towards the Maximilianstrasse and further towards Lehel - a part of the city. The end point was just close to the Hilton Park Hotel on the east side of the Englischer Garten.
Since it was very hot and I did not have any water with me I unfortunately decided to stop at the Odeonsplatz. Running close to the Universität (University) I just noticed that my body was exhausted. Without water I was unfortunately not able to continue longer than Odeonsplatz.
After a short brake I of course walked to Marienplatz in the heart of Munich and then through the Maximilianstrasse. After Lehel I finally reached the hotel and Englischer Garten. There I met my family and we visited Chinesischer Turm and Eisbach. In the article about Englischer Garten in Munich I described those two before.
Finally the challenge was completed. It was 5 km instead of 8 km but it was successful because it fulfilled a tourist's dream in his own loved Munich.
