Have you ever heard about something called sandbox game? Of course, a sandbox is something well known as a part of our lives because all of us have been children. However, a sandbox game is a game where you actually can show and develop your creativity. You have no real time limit and you are free to play it your way, so to say.

We have tried to find a concrete description or comparison of SimCity and Minecraft games. Both seem to be classified as a sandbox game and according to some online discussions, they have similarities. Unfortunately, we have not been that successful when searching for a real reason or explanation for why one of them is better or more interesting.

Our comparison

In this article we want to emphasize what we think might be the biggest difference between these two games. Besides the fact that both are totally flexible and open for our creativity, both games are perfect when we do not know what to do with our time. We simply let our brain think and show what it can do and we forget the time. Our game and the result inspire us and want us to continue.

SimCity is a creative game where we can create cities and see them grow. At the same time we get information about what is needed and what could be good to have to satisfy the need of the citizens and improve the financial stability in the city. Minecraft is also creative, but it appears to be a little bit different. You are more free to design your own home and the surrounding and you are not that dependent on the information about what is needed for success as you are in SimCity.

Minecraft is maybe more for younger people who are just experiencing their first touch with creativity and strategic thinking. SimCity we can classify as a game for those who would like to create and maintain functioning systems as cities and city networks.
