Hackers, spammers and web development

Hackers, spammers and web development. If we are developing some web product it can be very helpful to have a contact with people who know how to be destructive on the Internet.

How does a hacker think? We will now reveal a little detail about this human behavior. If someone tries to spam your website from e.g. 178.158.17.59 then we can see that the IP address is from Ukraine, Luhanska oblast, city: Luhans'k. Same with the IP address 89.229.153.91 which is from Poland, Mazowieckie, city: Plock . There are different online websites that can help us with that information.

Is that information true? Or, if we think in detail, can it be an IP address created by a VPN?

It is possible to use a VPN to hide the own IP address and let it look like some another. There are different methods and services for that so it is possible to manipulate this information.

If we get spammed from Luhanska oblast in Ukraine or Mazowieckie in Poland then it is not always true that the spammer is from there. He maybe is in Sweden, Denmark, Spain or Germany. Who knows?

Hiding the information by using VPN is allowed according to information on the Internet so the hackers and spammers are free to attack.

Hackers, spammers and web development
Spammers and hackers can contribute the product improvement.

Product improvement

Sometimes, if we as web developers "know" those spammers/hackers it can help us to develop our product. That is, if we are developing some web product it can be very helpful to have a contact with people who know how to be destructive on the Internet.

If they enjoy with what they are doing it can be good for our product improvement. We respect spammers and hackers as far as they do not create visible damage. If we do not have any contact with them, then it is important to try to log and analyze different activities.

However, as developer it is required to understand how problem source works. It is important to see where the security hole is. If we know that then we can create protection and we can offer spammers/hackers new challenges.
