Norwegian cheating in ski jumping

Norwegian cheating in ski jumping. Ski Federation (FIS), prohibited equipment, cheating and carelessness, let us see what happened.

In different sports we have had the opportunity to hear about cheating scandals. That behavior has been popular mostly in the athletics, for example running. It is also known that the west world normally accuses Russian athletes for cheating and using different drugs for doping. However, how big chance is it to see this phenomenon in skiing? More exactly, in the ski jumping. Well, one of the Scandinavian nations seems to have give it a try. Why not? Some cheating can give them better result without more training. That is not that dangerous.

Not everyone likes that idea. Maybe the people in Norway can close the eyes and pretend like they have not noticed this activity, but luckily they have been revealed. In this case we are not talking about drugs, but we can see another interesting method of cheating. What has happened and where did we find this information?

We have been attracted by an article on Croatian JutarnjiList and according to them, the International Ski Federation (FIS) has provisionally suspended three Norwegian coaches and two ski jumpers who are being investigated for their alleged involvement in the illegal manipulation of equipment at the recent World Championships in Trondheim. Also the FIS decided to seize all the jumping overalls worn by the Norwegian national team members in ski jumping and Nordic combined at this World Championships.

Another interesting detail in this case is what CNN Sports has written: "Their suits were found to contain a reinforced thread, making them stiffer and therefore more aerodynamic." According to that article we can see that the all three skiers do regret it deeply.

Disqualified because of carelessness

Now when we are writing about the cheating, we can say that similar problems also can occur unconsciously. This winter season we have seen one interesting case in Swedish Åre. In that case, it was a completely new skis and a completely new plates. The bindings were too high on both skis. The fact that the skis were completely new likely means that it wasn't a deliberate cheat, but rather a carelessness. The service man did not measure the binding height before the start of the competition. There is a maximum height for the binding to ensure fair conditions among the skiers. The higher the binding is, the easier it is for the skier to angle the skis without losing grip in the turns. Unfortunately, this skier was disqualified for prohibited equipment.
