Internet and chaos. It can be enough with just one mouse click to get problems. Let us check how the Internet can be affected by different parameters.

Our first article this year had a scientific touch. We wrote about Chaos theory and at the same time we got inspired to write about something more. That’s chaos on the Internet. What can cause that kind of chaos?

As an author and owner of this magazine, I have decided to write a reportage about connection between Internet and Chaos.

Briefly I would like to give an update about what Chaos theory is. It is a study of apparently random or unpredictable behavior in systems governed by deterministic laws. More about it you can find at e.g. britannica.com. You can easily find similar articles on other websites too.

In the article we published we mentioned examples and parameters. Since the number of all different parameters can make an outcome unpredictable we can easily tell that Internet can put us in a chaos situation. Sometimes it is only one mouse click between us and some big disaster which can give us unnecessary headache.

Different parameters

Normally there are no that big problems so the Internet must stop existing. The security is satisfying and all predictable use should not create problems for users. If everyone uses Internet with a little care then everything should be fine.

As the different parameters were mentioned in the earlier article and also here I have to go back to them. In this Internet and chaos relation those parameters are for example: websites, IP addresses, security, viruses and bugs.

The combination of all of them can offer a very nice environment if the security is good and if the number of viruses and bugs are small. But since the real life actually offers something else we can say that a normal Internet user easily can experience a chaotic situation. It can be enough with just one mouse click to get there.

Let us imagine what can happen when a user suddenly decides to do something unusual on the Internet. When the curiosity takes over it can put us in danger. It can be only one or two click away and that’s it. Your computer gets infected and probably hacked. What does that mean in the real life? Let's present just one example which many people might have experienced.

The example

If there is a website created in an old CMS, let us say Wordpress, it can be hacked and infected if the CMS is not updated and if it uses old plugins and themes. That means that many files and also database can contain different malware. This is something that can cause problems for every visitor on that website. Malware can spread virus in user's computer. Virus can create connection between the computer and a hacker. Hacker can destroy the computer and also steal private data such as passwords to different platforms such as online banks or other systems.

Many years ago this magazine published a situation where different hackers used IP addresses from Slovakias capital Bratislava. In Bratislava hackers you can read about it. Also American IP addresses can be dangerous. In California hackers you can see similar situation.

Security

Let us go back to the parameters. What if those IP addresses were randomly used as a cover? If we also use this parameter according to the Chaos theory rules then finding a source of the problem can be too difficult or even impossible. And if a source can not be found then it is very important to give more attention to a parameter such as security. Finally, if security as protection against suspicious behavior is good enough then the risk of getting problems is smaller. So, there you can see what different parameters can mean. Are they many then the outcome is more unpredictable.

That is why security must be prioritized and it is not security programs such as antivirus programmes we talk about. It is also our human brain. What is safe and what is not safe? Let our common sense help us!
