Sunny, warm days and blue waves is what many of us love. From generation to generation this experience appears to be something well taken care of. It has been so at least during the last 50 years.
As an author and owner of this magazine, I have decided to write a reportage about a new place on the Adriatic coast. It is new for me.
Last year we wrote about Makarska Riviera – a part of the Dalmatian coast of Adriatic sea and in 2019 we wrote about Perna, Loviste, Orebic and Korcula.
The places we wrote about in the two earlier articles belong mostly to the older generations but this article about Dugi Rat is a newly explored experience that belongs to the new generations.
This little society only a few kilometers from the city called Omis has around 7.000 inhabitants. It does not look like a standard tourist place with many different activities but it is however pretty nice little city. We write city because it looks like one even though it is in smaller format.
Just below the main street that passes through Dugi Rat there are some smaller beaches. When we visited the place the sea was very clean every day and therefore we think it is clean during the whole year.
Dugi Rat like all other places and cities on the Adriatic coast has its own small marinas. In one of them there is a big ship and it takes tourist around on different tours. For example people can visit island Brac or the city called Split. Probably they offer a whole day tours.
We have unfortunately noticed one negative thing in Dugi Rat. The main street is sometimes overloaded with cars, trucks and buses and they all drive too fast. It goes through the whole place and the majority of drivers do not care about people trying to go over the street.
We have decided to end this adventure visiting a restaurant on the east side of Dugi Rat. Just close to the main street towards Omis.
In the restaurant we ordered a very special fish called Škarpina (Scorpaena scrofa). more about it you can read at Wikipedia and of course you can see in this article how it looks when it is served.
We enjoyed it and at the end we realized why it costed as much as it did. The meat was very good and tasty. It was pretty different from the usual fishes in ordinary food stores. Combined with good salad, potatoes but of course also with a glass of wine this fish is something that everyone should order at least one time in their lives.
Thank you for reading dear people. If you are driving from Split towards Omis then try to stay and take a break at least. Dugi Rat can be worth a visit.
